Google Hub Locations
Google needs two hubs to service the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area. The eastern hub will be on the grounds of the Chapel Hill Library. The western hub is being built in the woods on Carrboro’s Westwood Cemetery, on Fidelity Street. Our proposed alternative site would be on the campus of the OWASA public water utility, on Jones Ferry Road. This campus nearly touches the cemetery’s land. The metro area map below shows that this alternative location would be identical to the cemetery location for the purposes of network design.
Town-owned sites nominated by Carrboro to Google
The following four sites, which are directly owned by the Town of Carrboro, were nominated by Town Hall in 2015 for Google Fiber to consider. Since the town does not own very much land, one of these sites is a park and one of these sites is the rare green space formed by the cemetery’s vacant land.
- 149 Fidelity Street (cemetery)
- 1120 Hillsborough Road (new MLK park)
- 1814-1816 Pathway Drive
- Open space between 603 and 605 Jones Ferry Road
